The Myrna and Sheldon Palley Collaborator Award presented an exceptional opportunity within our university's glass blowing department. As part of this project, students had the chance to collaborate with five industry-renowned glass artists. We each developed and presented our unique artistic concepts, competing for the opportunity to work alongside these masters. I was fortunate to be selected by the distinguished artist Aya Oki, known for her innovative approach to glass art. Together, we ideated and developed a concept for an abstract glass water fountain, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistic vision. This collaboration not only enhanced my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of artistic expression in glass art.
Aya Oki and I came up with this concept of creating an abstract water fountain. Aya Oki shipped me the blue bowl and blue flower. Once I received the piece, I began to create the black components to their appropriate scale.
Once the black parts were made, they were carefully arranged at varying angles, positions, and lengths on the back of the base. They were attached using UV glue, and clay supports helped keep them in place while the glue dried.
Finally the, the black components where attached to the sides.
